The Labour Court recommended that Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association agree on an independent expert to assess whether microbiology requires an on-site on-call service after midnight. The recommendation was dated 31 July 2019. The association sought the nationally agreed on-site hourly rate for 12 medical scientists, retrospectively from 15 November 2018. The hospital said activity levels after midnight were low and that an earlier agreement depended on outsourcing tests, which did not happen. The review should cover the hospital service from 1 November 2018 to 31 July 2019, assess clinical needs and resources, and be completed by 30 November 2019. The association’s claim should then be considered.
