Labour Court recommends Johnston Logistics recognise Unite and engage on pay dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Johnston Logistics Limited recognise Unite the Union for its members and engage with it on a dispute over pay, shift allowance and overtime. The recommendation was dated 14 June 2019. Unite sought a 15% pay increase, overtime at 1.5 times the hourly rate and a shift allowance of 1.3 times the flat hourly rate. Johnston Logistics said pay and conditions had improved since 2009 and that it would continue consulting workers through its Employee Involvement Forum. The Court said the employer had not engaged with the union on the issues, and that engagement would help test the union's claim that members' terms compared unfavourably with similar employments.
