The Labour Court recommended that the Health Service Executive pay a worker €8,000 for significant additional supervisory and work responsibilities carried out between 2001 and 2008. The decision was dated 5 June 2019. The worker, represented by Connect Trade Union, had appealed an Adjudication Officer’s recommendation that his complaint was not well founded. He sought retrospective regrading so his pension would reflect Maintenance Officer pay. The HSE said a public service recruitment moratorium prevented vacant posts from being filled and that the worker’s substantive post was upgraded only in 2017, after he retired. The Court recommended the once-off payment in recognition of his contribution; it would not affect his pension entitlements.
