Labour Court recommends pay terms for 170 Tesco Ireland workers

The Labour Court recommended pay terms for 170 Tesco Ireland workers on pre-1996 contracts, including a 2% basic pay increase from 1 April 2015. Its recommendation, dated 5 April 2019, also set out conditions for later increases and one-off payments.

Mandate Trade Union SIPTU sought four annual 2% increases, matching those given to other staff, with retrospection to April 2015. Tesco Ireland said earlier Labour Court recommendations had already addressed the issue and proposed that members re-ballot on one of them.

For later years, the Court recommended increases when the workers’ basic pay rates reached equality with post-1996 workers’ rates, with that equality maintained thereafter. In specified years when post-1996 workers received an increase but this group received none, it recommended a one-off cash payment equivalent to 50% of that increase’s annual value.
