The Labour Court recommended changes to a proposed new nursing contract following a dispute between HSE/Dept Of Health/Dept Of Public Expenditure And Reform and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. In its recommendation dated 3 April 2019, the Court addressed contract provisions on work locations, duties, hours and qualifying criteria. It said eligibility for the enhanced nurse or midwife role was met when a worker reached point 4 on the staff nurse/midwife scale. Management had argued for two years' service, while the union argued for one year and sixteen weeks, subject to the other criteria. The Court also declined the union's request for a different arrangement for new entrants who did not progress to the enhanced role.
