The Labour Court recommended against a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for shift pay arrangements for four former Navan ambulance controllers employed by the HSE. The recommendation was dated 26 February 2019. The union said no shift-paid role had been available within 45 kilometres of Navan and sought changes to the workers’ hours. The HSE said the roles did not require shift patterns attracting the payment and that the claimants had not taken available shift-paid options. The Court noted their redeployment had been agreed and they had received compensation for lost shift earnings under existing agreements. It recommended that the union’s claim not be conceded.
