The Labour Court recommended that Trinity College Dublin, Unite and SIPTU return to Workplace Relations Commission conciliation to resolve a dispute over permanent posts that were not replaced. If they could not reach agreement, the Court said both sides should jointly refer the outstanding issues back to it for a definitive recommendation. Unite and SIPTU sought more support staff in line with rising student numbers and the College’s strategic plan. They said support grades faced increased stress, sick leave and unrealistic workloads. Trinity College Dublin said support staffing had risen 8% since May 2015 and that it had invited the unions to identify specific areas of concern. The Labour Court signed its recommendation on 19 July 2018, following a hearing on 17 July.
