The Labour Court recommended that Trinity College Dublin pay a former part-time research assistant €10,000 in full and final settlement of his claim. The recommendation was dated 9 July 2018 and set aside an Adjudication Officer recommendation that had rejected the claim. The worker sought reinstatement or compensation after being made redundant in 2015. He argued that his work continued after the Anti-Bullying Centre closed and that his redundancy breached the Haddington Road agreement. Trinity College said his externally funded post became redundant when the Centre closed. The Court found his employment ended under the College’s existing provisions and noted it had been prepared to discuss an ex-gratia payment.
