The Labour Court recommended that Waterford Stanley pay €1,500 each to 14 craft workers made redundant in February 2016, in full and final settlement of their claim for enhanced redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 11 June 2018. The workers had received statutory redundancy, 3½ weeks’ pay per year of service and a €2,000 lump sum. Connect Trade Union sought the additional €600 per year of service paid to workers made redundant during Waterford Stanley’s 2017 manufacturing wind-down. The company argued that this later package reflected workers’ co-operation with the wind-down and did not apply to the earlier redundancies. The Court said the negotiations for the two groups took place in very different circumstances and recommended the company’s offer of €1,500 to each worker.
