The Labour Court recommended on 5 June 2018 that Bruss Limited pay two supervisors overtime for work on Saturday 21 October 2017, following Storm Ophelia. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union brought the dispute on their behalf. The workers had been asked to work the overtime before the factory closure was announced. Bruss accepted that they had not been told in advance that the hours would not attract overtime rates. The company said its agreement required employees to complete the specified hours before overtime applied. Citing the unique circumstances, the Court recommended that the two workers be paid overtime for the period in question.
