The Labour Court rejected seven craft workers’ claim for compensation after their return to a five-day working week at Boliden Tara Mines. In a recommendation dated 1 May 2018, it found no merit in the remaining claim, noting that the workers had continued to be paid for a 40-hour week. Represented by Unite & Connect, the workers said the change brought 72 extra attendance days, higher travel costs, about €300 less weekly shift pay and 192 additional working hours a year. The company said it had continued paying them for 40 hours a week, including during the earlier shift pattern. The parties agreed that compensation for the loss of shift work had already been resolved through a collective process and was not before the Court.
