The Labour Court recommended that Hertel Ireland Limited pay a once-off €1,000 to each of 24 scaffolders in settlement of a dispute over travel-time payments. The recommendation was dated 25 April 2018. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought restoration of the 2½-hour weekly allowance, saying its members’ pay had been affected and the company had restored the payment pending the Court’s decision. Hertel Ireland Limited said the reduction had helped preserve jobs amid cost pressures. The Court said the allowance was a legacy payment with no logical basis and recommended that it cease immediately.
