Labour Court adds committee duties to Daughters of Charity worker’s appeal

The Labour Court partly upheld an area manager’s appeal over changes to his reporting line and duties after a management restructure at the Daughters Of Charity. In its decision dated 24 April 2018, it recommended that he continue reporting to the Service Manager on a “red circled” basis, chair the committees for which he had responsibility and continue as Person In Charge. The worker said the new structure had effectively demoted him and sought to return to the second most senior management level, with his Person In Charge duties removed. The Daughters Of Charity said his title, salary and other terms had been preserved. It said the new clinical management posts were needed to meet HIQA requirements and help address workload concerns. The Court upheld the existing recommendations on his reporting line and Person In Charge role, and added the recommendation that he continue chairing the committees for which he had responsibility.
