The Labour Court recommended against a worker’s claim against Cork City Council for higher pay-scale credit. The recommendation was signed on 28 March 2018. The worker, a full-time firefighter, argued that the council had not properly credited his earlier service as a part-time retained firefighter. The Court found that the agreement in force when he began full-time work in September 2013 provided credit on a 2:1 basis. A later agreement introduced year-for-year credit from 1 January 2014, but did not apply retrospectively to his case.
