The Labour Court recommended that The Alzheimer Society of Ireland pay a worker an enhanced redundancy sum on top of statutory redundancy. The recommendation was signed on 27 March 2018. The union, INMO, sought public-sector redundancy terms, arguing that public-sector arrangements had applied during the worker’s employment. The Society said it was outside the public sector and could not afford an enhanced payment. The Court recommended three weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to statutory redundancy, subject to a cap of two years’ pay or half the salary payable to preserved pension age, whichever is lower. It also recommended that the Society and the worker’s side jointly seek HSE funding to implement the recommendation.
