The Labour Court recommended that Cobh Community Hospital, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation await the outcome of national discussions on Section 39 funding and staff pay. The recommendation was signed on 27 March 2018. The unions sought accelerated pay restoration for nursing and support staff, saying their members’ salaries had historically tracked HSE scales and had been cut under FEMPI legislation. The hospital said it could not secure extra HSE funding and had reported operating losses. The Court said the national discussions had superseded the dispute and recommended that any related issue still unresolved afterward could be referred back to it.
