Labour Court recommends compensation for two GMIT invigilators

The Labour Court recommended that Galway Mayo Institute Of Technology (Gmit) pay two invigilators compensation for losses after work arrangements changed in 2014. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 2018. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the changes undermined the invigilators’ employment terms and caused ongoing losses. GMIT disputed breaching their contracts and said any loss reflected choices between work at GMIT and similar work at NUIG. The Court recommended that the 2014 arrangements continue and that the parties agree the losses suffered by the two claimants. GMIT should then pay each the equivalent of 18 months of the agreed loss in full and final settlement. The recommendation specified no euro amount.
