The Labour Court upheld University College Cork’s appeal and overturned an earlier recommendation for an individual job evaluation of a worker’s role. The decision was dated 30 November 2017. The worker, represented by the Irish Federation of University Teachers, was Head of Group at the Tyndall Institute and was paid at the maximum point of UCC’s Senior Administrative IV (Grade 8) scale. UCC argued its Administrative Grading Scheme was suspended and it was not authorised to conduct an evaluation. The union said the worker had been excluded from a job-evaluation exercise and that his earlier evaluation should have led to a higher grade. The Court found the dispute concerned the worker’s grade within UCC’s salary structure. It recommended that, if and when the university’s scheme reopens, his role be put forward for evaluation.
