The Labour Court recommended that the Construction Industry Federation and Unite The Union address crane operators’ grading and hours claims through the Construction Industry National Joint Industrial Council. It also recommended extending the existing two-hour daily greasing allowance to the crane drivers represented in the dispute. The union sought a collective agreement covering pay, travel time, pensions, working hours, overtime, training, health and safety and inclement weather. The Federation said a Sectoral Employment Order had increased pay and argued that further concessions could disrupt pay relativities across the industry. The Court said it could not support a change that might disturb the agreed grading framework and pay relationships. Its recommendation was signed on 13 November 2017.
