Labour Court rejects union claim for incremental credit at Tusla

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union’s claim for incremental credit for unit managers and deputy unit managers in Tusla (Child & Family Agency) residential childcare services in Cork/Kerry. Its recommendation was dated 1 November 2017. The union sought incremental progression and retrospective payments from October 2013, arguing the managers were treated less favourably than other employees regularised under the same agreement. Tusla said the managers’ interim rates were already higher than approved scales and the claim would increase costs. The Court noted the managers had been regularised and were paid higher rates than others in similar positions. It considered management’s proposal to realign their rates over time reasonable and did not recommend in favour of the union’s claim.
