The Labour Court recommended pay rises and the removal of two unpaid five-minute breaks for workers in the abattoir at Abp Ireland (Rathkeale). The recommendation was signed on 5 October 2017. It recommended a 1.5% gross salary increase from 1 January 2015, followed by 2% increases from 1 January 2016, 2017 and 2018. The increases included the Time Bank buyout. The Court also recommended ending the breaks from acceptance, with any health and safety concerns to be addressed in the normal manner. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought a 10% increase for 2015 to 2017 without productivity conditions and opposed removing the breaks. Abp Ireland (Rathkeale) had proposed 2% increases from 2016 through 2018, a €1,250 Time Bank buyout and removal of the breaks.
