The Labour Court recommended that seniority among Dublin Bus de-safers be based on time in the grade or role, rather than length of service with the company. The recommendation was dated 29 September 2017. The dispute was referred by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the National Bus and Rail Union after conciliation failed. The National Bus and Rail Union proposed seniority by company service, while SIPTU sought seniority based on time in the grade. The Court said the de-safer role had many features of a grade and found no compelling reason to create an atypical seniority arrangement.
