The Labour Court recommended conditional phased pay increases for An Post staff in a dispute over the unions’ 6% pay claim. The recommendation was dated 5 September 2017.

The Communications Workers Union, Civil and Public Services Union, and Association of Higher Civil and Public Servants were seeking the increase. An Post said the savings needed to fund the earlier phase had not been achieved and cited challenging financial and trading conditions. The Court found that no further savings were required for phase one. It recommended a 2% increase from 1 July 2017 and a 1.5% increase from 1 July 2018, subject to verification of additional efficiency measures by 30 November 2017. The unions were to contribute 50% of the cost through agreed savings, estimated at about €7.5 million for the two phases. Measures included reducing about 290 full-time-equivalent posts in Mails Collection and Delivery and converting seven post offices to contractor status. The Monitoring Group was to verify savings and costs.
