The Labour Court recommended a 1.15% pay adjustment for all drivers at Iarnrod Eireann, recognising past productivity. It also recommended requiring enough drivers to take on mentoring duties to meet trainee drivers’ training needs. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the National Bus and Rail Union sought recognition and payment for past productivity and recognition of drivers’ mentoring work. Iarnrod Eireann opposed payment for past productivity and argued that mentoring payments should not go to all drivers. The recommendation, signed on 23 August 2017, followed a dispute referred to the Court under the Industrial Relations Act 1990. Drivers who mentored trainees received €115 for each week of mentoring.
