Labour Court recommends Bord Na Gcon pension accruals continue until 2022

The Labour Court recommended that eligible active members of Bord Na Gcon's defined benefit pension scheme be allowed to accrue contributions until 1 January 2022. Its recommendation, signed on 14 August 2017, resolved a dispute involving 32 Grounds and Administration staff and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The union said a proposal had been made to allow accrual until January 2022, while Bord Na Gcon's Board set 31 December 2018 as the closing date, citing concern about increasing the scheme deficit. The Court noted that actuaries had raised no red flag about accrual to 2022, the funding plan ran until 2023, and the employer had provided no actuarial report or other evidence that the extension would pose a substantial risk.
