The Labour Court recommended on 22 March 2017 that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for meal vouchers and car parking during overtime at the Mater Hospital not be conceded. The union sought the benefits for non-nursing staff, saying one grade had received them for overtime. The hospital said that arrangement addressed nursing recruitment and retention difficulties, had ended when those issues were resolved, and covered a different overtime pattern. The Court said an agreement made to address an issue affecting one grade should not automatically apply across the hospital.
