The Labour Court recommended on 22 March 2017 that Dublin City University place two porters on the appropriate point of its GSO II scale, including a 20% shift allowance, according to their service, from 1 October 2016. It also recommended that they be rostered on the established GSO II shift pattern as soon as practicable. Unite sought the allowance after the porters transferred to DCU from St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra. The university said the Department of Education and Skills determined pay and shift patterns and that it could not concede the cost-increasing claim.
