The Labour Court recommended two 3% increases for carers and domestic staff at a private nursing home, effective from 1 January 2016 and 1 January 2017. The recommendation was signed on 16 January 2017. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought HSE rates for members; the employer said private homes had a different fee structure from HSE homes and payroll accounted for 70% of its fee income. The Court also recommended further pay discussions later in 2017 after talks on Fair Deal funding between the HSE and private nursing-home operators.
