The Labour Court recommended that a caretaker accept Laois & Offaly Education Training Board’s offer of overtime at its FET Centre, varying the Adjudication Officer’s recommendation. The recommendation was signed on 16 January 2017. The dispute followed a 2014 move of evening classes from the Community College to the FET Centre, reducing available evening caretaking overtime at the former site. The worker’s union said the loss of overtime and Saturday hours amounted to €6,193.04 and that he had been assured he could make up the hours. The board said he had first refusal on overtime and advance notice of events. The Court noted that the worker had declined overtime at the FET Centre, which was closer to his home, and had not accepted the board’s offer to buy out the loss. It recommended that he accept the FET Centre hours.
