The Labour Court recommended that Munster Joinery pay Eugene Farrelly €6,819 compensation after a unilateral change to his sales commission calculation reduced his earnings. The recommendation was signed on 12 January 2017. Farrelly, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had worked as a sales representative for about 20 years. He said the change left him short by €6,819 between November 2014 and October 2015. Munster Joinery did not attend the hearing. The Court also recommended that the company restore the agreed commission calculation while the parties discuss an alternative, and engage with Farrelly about a suitable company vehicle. He had rejected the company’s offer of a car because of its benefit-in-kind implications.
