The Labour Court disallowed a worker’s appeal over Cork Institute of Technology’s 2014 selection process for a vice-president post. The decision was signed on 12 October 2016. Represented by the Teachers Union of Ireland, the worker argued that the interview process disadvantaged him. Cork Institute said it followed relevant procedures before a properly constituted selection board. The Court called it unsatisfactory that the institute could not provide records of questions asked of the nine candidates. It also noted that the worker alleged a lack of uniformity in only one respect and understood that interview time and the marking scheme were the same for all candidates. The Court found no basis to conclude the procedures were unfair or structured to disadvantage him.
