The Labour Court recommended that University College Cork and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union use their agreed Public Service Agreement interpretation arrangements to decide whether reduced overtime availability meets the criteria for compensation. The recommendation was signed on 12 October 2016. The union sought compensation for lost overtime earnings after a 2012 agreement changed rosters and staffing. The Court found that overtime availability had fallen and staff had lost earnings, but individuals could refuse the overtime and were not obliged to work it.
