The Labour Court recommended that a Dublin City Council worker’s grievances be considered first by an assessor, in a recommendation signed on 7 October 2016. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said the Council mishandled a grievance about a colleague’s alleged behaviour and denied him access to CCTV footage and a personal appeal hearing. Dublin City Council said it had investigated the incident and that the worker had submitted many grievances. The Court recommended that management and the union agree an internal assessor to decide whether the worker’s current, earlier and future grievances should go through the grievance procedure. If no internal appointment was made within four weeks, the Court could appoint an external assessor at the Council’s expense at the request of both sides.
