Labour Court recommends new recruitment process for Central Bank technician roles

The Labour Court recommended that the Central Bank of Ireland and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union and Unite the Union negotiate a new recruitment process for technician-grade electrical roles. The recommendation was dated 3 October 2016 and followed the unions’ claim that direct recruitment at technician grade eroded a 7% pay differential. The unions sought restoration of the differential and retrospection to November 2015. The Bank said it had filled two technician positions through an advertised process, including an external appointment, and argued that restoring the differential would breach FEMPI legislation. The Court said the successful appointees should remain in their roles at technician rates and fulfil their training commitments. It recommended that negotiations begin immediately, with WRC assistance if needed.
