Labour Court recommends roster notice and premium shifts for EGIS worker

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Egis Road and Tunnel Operation Limited immediately implement its undertakings to a part-time worker, Piotr Szkaradek, on roster notice and premium-rate shifts. The recommendation was signed on 25 August 2016. Szkaradek worked 24 hours a week in two 12-hour shifts across seven days. He raised concerns that he no longer received block rosters with sufficient advance notice and was not rostered for a proportionate number of shifts attracting premium pay. The company undertook to make reasonable efforts to give at least one month's written notice of shifts and to roster him for a proportionate number of premium-rate shifts compared with full-time colleagues. The Court said the recommendation did not change the flexibility clause in his contract or prevent either side negotiating roster changes case by case.
