Labour Court recommends pension benefits from start of nurse training

The Labour Court recommended that claimants in a dispute involving St Patrick's Hospital accrued pension benefits from the start of their nurse training there. The recommendation was signed on 27 June 2016. The Pna SIPTU Impact - Inter Union Group argued that service as scheme members-in-waiting, including student nurses’ service, counted towards pension benefits. St Patrick's Hospital argued that trainees were not employees under the Trust Deed during that waiting period and that the Cassells Agreement did not provide pension credit.
