The Labour Court recommended that Louth County Hospital introduce electronic time and attendance recording from 5 September 2016, with staff able to use a swipe card or biometric access. The recommendation was dated 17 June 2016. The Unite/SIPTU/Teeu Trade Unions objected to biometric data and argued that introducing the system for support staff alone was unreasonable. The hospital said the existing system needed replacement and offered a swipe-card option. The Court viewed electronic recording as modernisation of an existing practice and recommended that the parties agree replacement-card charges and arrangements for staff working off site.
