The Labour Court recommended redundancy terms for workers affected by job cuts at Cameron Ireland Limited, including statutory entitlements plus two weeks’ pay for each year of service, capped at 25 years. The recommendation was signed on 9 June 2016.
The dispute was referred by Unite after conciliation failed. Cameron Ireland Limited said it needed to reduce costs and scale back its workforce to remain competitive. Unite said it had not helped devise the selection matrix used in earlier redundancies and that the company had not raised redundancy costs before proposing competency-based selection.
The Court understood that 45 people had been made redundant, including six compulsorily. It also recommended favourable consideration for future vacancies for those made compulsorily redundant and that the parties agree details of any future compulsory-selection matrix.
