The Labour Court recommended that Galway County Council pay waterworks caretaker Vivian Judge €5,000 after finding a serious and unacceptable delay in filling a vacant post. The recommendation was signed on 9 May 2016, following Judge’s appeal of a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation against his request to return to his original five-over-seven contract. The Council said Judge’s contract allowed changes to his hours and that the roster was needed to deliver services. Judge had covered Sundays while the post remained vacant; it was filled in August 2015, and he was then working a six-over-seven shift. The Court recommended that he continue that shift.
