Labour Court recommends Unite accept TCD’s technical-grade proposals

The Labour Court recommended that Unite accept TCD management’s proposals for the technical grade structure in the college’s IT services. The recommendation was signed on 30 March 2016. Unite had argued that the changes could restrict career progression, particularly for Chief Technical Officers. TCD management said the three grades would remain and promotion opportunities would not be affected. The Court noted that one Chief Technical Officer role would lose responsibility for disciplinary, grievance and performance-management functions, while retaining a significant managerial role. It said the change was not significant enough to make management’s proposals a breach of the 2005 Expert Group Report.
