The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the Central Bank Of Ireland’s offer to extend three temporary workers’ contracts until January 2017. The recommendation was signed on 4 March 2016. The union sought permanent contracts for three machine and general assistants, saying they filled vacancies left by retirees and that a previous permanent appointment had led to similar offers for fixed-term colleagues. The Bank said its print works were under review and permanent appointments would be inappropriate while options included reducing staff numbers. The Court said permanent roles were not appropriate while the review indicated reductions and savings would be needed. If the review was not complete after January 2017, the Bank had committed to engage with the claimants under agreed procedures, including possible referral back to the Court.
