The Labour Court recommended that Senaca Group increase its once-off settlement offer to €750 in a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) over security duties at the Corrib Pipeline Project. The recommendation was signed on 21 January 2016. The union sought an ongoing annual allowance for winter salting and gritting, first aid and mustering, saying the duties had previously been carried out by contractors and raised health and safety concerns. Senaca said they were part of normal security work and that staff were trained. The Court did not recommend a refund of deductions for accommodation, meals and transport, finding that the contracts referred to the deductions and that choosing not to use the accommodation was the workers' choice. It considered the duties part of normal security work and recommended the €750 payment as full and final settlement of that part of the dispute.
