The Labour Court recommended that Nui Galway pay a worker an additional €10,000 redundancy lump sum and that all parties accept an enhanced redundancy agreement reached at conciliation. The recommendation was signed on 13 November 2015. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union concerned the worker’s compulsory redundancy. The union said suitable alternative work should have been offered and sought retrospective reinstatement. Management said funding for the worker’s post had ended and no suitable alternative position was available. The Court criticised the University’s unexplained delay in implementing the agreement, which it said had contributed to the dispute.
