The Labour Court recommended that Nazareth House Mallow introduce three days’ sick leave in a rolling 24-month period, with no sick pay for the first three days of an illness absence. The recommendation was signed on 9 November 2015. For seven night-shift workers, the Court recommended restoring 25% of the reduction in paid hours from 1 January 2016. A further 25% should be restored in October 2016 if the home’s finances allowed, with two further 25% restorations to be considered in July 2017 and April 2018. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the sick-pay change and loss of paid breaks were inequitable. Nazareth House Mallow said the changes were cost-saving measures needed to support the home’s viability.
