The Labour Court recommended that pay reductions under the Public Service Agreement should not apply to University College Dublin modular paid teachers whose earnings are below the level specified in the agreement. The recommendation was signed on 2 November 2015. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the teachers’ modular pay made the agreement’s pay cut formula inappropriate and argued they were treated less favourably than full-time lecturers. UCD argued that cost-increasing claims were prohibited and its formula was fair. The Court said the workers’ circumstances were unique and not comparable to lecturers, part-time workers or job-sharers.
