The Labour Court recommended that University College Cork make an ex gratia redundancy payment to a half-time lecturer in Speech and Hearing Sciences of four weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory redundancy. The recommendation was signed on 9 October 2015 and followed a dispute brought on the claimant’s behalf by the Irish Federation of University Teachers. The claimant’s fixed-term contract ended in 2009, and the parties agreed this created a redundancy situation. UCC had offered statutory redundancy, which she did not accept; the union sought an additional payment using a four-weeks-per-year formula. The Court said the claim arose from very particular circumstances and recommended the formula on a without-precedent basis. It gave no euro figure.
