The Labour Court found Irish Rail acted contrary to its 1994 agreement with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association, Unite the Union, the National Bus and Rail Union and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union when it removed the chair of the Disciplinary Appeals Tribunal without consulting them. The recommendation was dated 1 October 2015. The unions objected to the chair's removal and sought to maintain the joint selection process. Irish Rail said it had just cause and argued that a tender would provide transparency and meet procurement policy. The Court recommended that the parties meet and mutually agree a new independent chair, offering assistance if they could not reach agreement.
Labour Court recommends Irish Rail and five unions agree new tribunal chair
