The Labour Court recommended applying the arrangement used in 2013 to Christmas Sunday overtime at Tesco Ireland Ltd in 2015, then renegotiating the company’s 1996 and 1997 agreements with Mandate Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 8 September 2015. The union wanted workers who had regularly worked the designated Sundays to get priority for those hours. Tesco Ireland Ltd said staff contractually required to work Sundays should be offered the hours first, with any remaining hours shared fairly among other staff. The Court recommended using the 2013 arrangement for the 2015 Christmas period and starting negotiations on updated agreements as soon as practicable. If the talks did not produce a final agreement, unresolved issues could be referred back to the Court.
