The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union accept Dublin City Council’s proposals in a dispute over a payment to caretakers for lifting bins in inclement weather. The recommendation was signed on 18 August 2015. The union said caretakers still helped ensure refuse was removed and that the payment was part of a long-standing agreement. The Council said caretakers no longer lifted the bins because private contractors did that work. The Court also recommended prompt discussions between both sides on identified health and safety concerns.
