The Labour Court recommended that Chep Ireland increase its pay offer to 2% for 12 months from 1 July 2014. The recommendation, signed on 2 June 2015, followed a dispute over the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a backdated 2% pay increase. The union said the claim recognised workers’ contribution and pointed to the company’s position in a profitable international group. Chep Ireland disputed that it had a near monopoly, and said staff had already received a 1.5% increase and its market share faced pressure from lower-paid international competitors.
